The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian (Lipa Cathedral) is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines. History:

The history of the cathedral dates back to the late 1800s when two priests, Fr. Raymundo Humeres and Fr. Ventura Roa, proposed a plan to develop a permanent place of worship in Lipa. This plan was executed despite strong objection by many government officials due to the instability of the region. The construction of the cathedral began on May 30, 1899. The simple religious structure was eventually completed and dedicated to St. Sebastian in February 1903. The cathedral went through a period of destruction and rebuilding during World War II. The Japanese troops bombarded it and burned it down in 1945. The local diocese decided to restore the church in 1952. The new cathedral was consecrated by Archbishop John Obviar on October 1962. However, the cathedral suffered damage once again during the 1990 earthquake. The structure was renovated in 2002 and was reconstructed using the same materials used in the original construction. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Philippines.
