First Church of God In Panama was initially called Iglesia de la Segunda de Corazon de Jesus and was colloquially referred to as "La Segunda". The church was founded by Reverend Jacobo and Maltina Robinson, two immigrants from Jamaica, who were sent to Panama by the Church of God of Anderson, Indiana to evangelize the local population. Despite facing substantial opposition, the church quickly grew and eventually established itself as a major Pentecostal congregation in Panama. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Panama.
