History:
The church was founded in the 6th century and has been in use since then, although the precise date of its foundation is not known. It is believed to have been built on the site of a much older church dedicated to the Forefathers. During the Crusader period, the church was referred to as "The Church of St. John". Later, it became a Greek Orthodox Church and was renamed "The Holy Forefathers Greek Orthodox Church". This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Palestine.
