Church of St. Lazarus In Palestine is a Christian pilgrimage site located in Bethany, a village on the east side of the Jordan River, located 4 miles east of Jerusalem. It is believed to have been the home of Saint Lazarus, who Jesus raised from the dead (John 11:1-44). The current church at the site was originally built in the 12th Century and has been renovated and remodelled over the years. It is now a Roman Catholic Church administered by the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land. It is one of the best churches in Palestine which you must visit.

History:

The current church was built during the Crusader period on the site of a Byzantine Church probably built over the former (first century) temple in which Jesus and his disciples would visit, when Jesus ordained Lazarus as the Bishop of Bethany. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Palestine.
