The Orthodox Hindu religion is not as popular in Oman as it is in many other regions, so there are not as many Shiva temples in Oman as in other countries. During the festival, people gather together in a Shiva Temple (or mandir) to offer puja (prayer) and honor the gods. Various kinds of sweets and fruits are offered as bhog or food to the lord and attendees also sing praises of the deity and his consorts.
