Brief History:
Al Ayn East Mosque is a historic mosque in Al Ayn, Oman. It is one of the oldest mosques in the area, dating back to the 16th century. The mosque was built by a wealthy merchant from Portuguese-controlled Muscat to thank God for his many successes. The merchant was so prosperous that, upon entering the mosque, his hat was filled with coins, which subsequently filled the mihrab. Since then, it has been a popular place of worship and continues to attract worshipers today. The mosque is known for its distinctive architectural style, featuring two large domes. It is also known for its intricate tilework and ornamental brickwork. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Ayn East Mosque is located in Wilayat Ibri, in Ad Dhahirah Governorate in Oman. The building features a soaring three-pronged minaret, a dome, and a rectangular prayer hall built with a blend of traditional Islamic and modern architecture. The mosque is surrounded by lush gardens with a water fountain. The minaret is the main feature of the mosque, it is constructed with four corners and its height is 60 meters. The dome is large and white. Its internal decoration is highlighted with golden geometric shapes. The rectangular prayer hall also has a distinctive dome, which is decorated with ornamental motifs. The prayer hall is lined with large white marble columns and its soffits are finished in white marble. The roof of the mosque is covered in clay tiles and the walls are decorated with traditional Islamic motifs. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
