Brief History:
Al Ashkharah East Mosque is located in Al Ashkharah Town. It is one of the oldest mosques in Oman. Its construction began around 1817/1818 and was completed in 1825. The mosque is an example of traditional Omani architecture. It consists of three minarets, two of which are situated on the corners of the courtyard and the third minaret located at the front of the mosque. Inside the mosque, there are several domes with intricate stucco and latticework. This mosque is an important pilgrimage site for local Muslims. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Ashkharah East Mosque in Oman is constructed in traditional Islamic style. It is a single-storey mosque featuring several domes, two minarets, and four porticoes that lead to the east-facing mosque entrance. Traditionally, the mosque has a mihrab niche that points the direction of prayer (qibla) towards Mecca. The interior of the mosque is lavishly decorated with white stucco and intricate painting. The main prayer hall is decorated with white and dark blue geometric patterns and features a central fountain for ablution. The mosque also has a spacious courtyard surrounded by arcades used for socializing. The mosque also features a library to house religious texts, research and study. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
The Al Ashkhaerah East Mosque in Oman is open to visitors from 7:00am to 11:30am and from 5:30pm to 7:00pm every day except Friday, when it is open from 6:00am to 12:00pm and 7:00pm to 10:00pm. best mosque in the world.
