Skåtøy Church is a Church of Norway parish church located on the island of Skåtøy in the municipality of Kvinnherad in Vestland county, Norway. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1780, using plans drawn up by the famous architect Caspar Heinrich Overbeck. The church seats about 175 people. The church history of Skåtøy goes back to the 14th century when the first church was built at the site. In 1662 the old church was torn down and the present church was built in its place in 1780. Skåtøy Church is most famously associated with the Ratberg painting, which is a 15th century painting on the altar wall. The painting depicts the crucifixion and it is one of Norway’s oldest and finest medieval wall paintings. The church features religious services every Sunday, weddings, christenings, and other special events. The church also offers bible studies and prayer meetings, as well as confirmation classes for those seeking to be confirmed into the church.
