St. Theresa Catholic Church, Kabayi is an ancient Catholic parish situated in the town of Kabayi, located in the Niger State in Nigeria. The church was established in early 19th century, when missionaries first arrived in Kabayi. The church is popularly referred to by its original name, Stella Afrikin. The church was named after the beloved Italian Saint Theresa of the Cross (Blessed Teresa of Calcutta). It is one of the best churches in Nigeria which you must visit.

St. Theresa Catholic Church, Kabayi was first established in 1839 by Roman Catholic missionaries, led by elder Nicolas Hye, who arrived in the area. The missionaries were assigned to Kabayi by Vicar Franz Xavier who, at that time, was the ‘Patron’ of the district. In the 19th century, Kabayi was the only known place in the area where Christianity was being promulgated. Over the years, St. Theresa Catholic Church, Kabayi has become a symbol of religious tolerance and culture in the area. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
