The Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) is a Christian denomination in Nigeria. It is a member of the Lutheran World Federation. The LCCN was founded in 1968. The headquarters for the LCCN are in Lagos, Nigeria. History The LCCN was founded in 1968 as a result of a merger between two churches: the Lutheran Church of West Africa (LCWA) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nigeria (ELCN). Prior to the merger, the LCWA was founded in 1923, when German missionaries arrived in Nigeria and established churches throughout the region. The ELCN was founded in 1948 by native Nigerians, who were dissatisfied with the policies and practices of the LCWA. Facts • The LCCN has over 300 congregations and more than 600,000 members. • The LCCN is divided into six dioceses and has a presiding bishop. • The LCCN is involved in social reform activities and has established several healthcare centers. • The LCCN is involved in interfaith dialogues with other churches, and supports the World Council of Churches and its programs.
