The Nigerian Lutheran Church was started by Norwegian evangelical missionaries in the late 1800s with help from the Norwegian Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of North America. The mission of the church has been to provide spiritual care and guidance to followers of Christianity in Nigeria. Initially, the Nigerian Lutheran Church was established by the Norwegian Missionary Society to help Christians of the Sambo Tribe. Over time, the mission spread to other parts of the country and the church began accepting members from other tribes as well.
