History:

The church began its formation as a prayer house in 1876 when the Church Missionary Society sent missionaries, among them the Missionary Thomas Birch Freeman and Brother John Shandy, from England to Lagos in 1846. Freeman established the first Baptist church in Lagos and in 1881, that church was named the Ikoyi Baptist Church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
