St. Peter's Catholic Church, Kafanchan Diocese was established in 1960, during the mission set up by the Prelate of Asaba (later called the Congregation of the Most Holy Heart of Mary). The church was officially opened on 13th October 1960 by Archbishop Charles Heerey. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
