Barahi Dyochhen is a traditional form of worship found in the Hindu culture of Nepal. The word “Barahi” literally means “prayer” and “Dyochhen” means “rite”. This form of worship is dedicated to the Goddess Barahi who is believed to be an incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Parvati. During the Barahi Dyochhen, offerings and prayers are made to the Goddess in order to receive her blessings and protection. The traditional Barahi Dyochhen starts with a puja to the Goddess. Offerings of flowers, fruits and items such as clay lamps are made to the Goddess. Afterward, a traditional folk song is sung in honour of Barahi and is known as the Barahi Dhun.
