The Dutch Reformed congregation at Windhoek was established in 1934 and celebrated its first service, with 18 members of the congregation, in June 1935. They initially used the "Grote Kerk" building in Theunissen Street as their venue of worship, and later moved to their own red-brick building in 1936. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Namibia.
