History:
The original Dutch Reformed Church in Windhoek was established in 1900 when German forces took Windhoek from the Herero people. The church was largely segregated along racial lines, with African and Coloured congregants attending separate services held at the same location. However, in 1967, the church decided to divide the congregation into four distinct congregations: two English-speaking, one Afrikaans-speaking, and one German-speaking. The English-speaking congregations – Deep South and Windhoek West – were formed in short succession and served an area that included Katutura and other areas where many African-Namibians lived.
