Worship Method:
Thottipal Bhagavati Temple is an ancient temple located in the village of Thottipal in Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, the Divine Mother and the worship is mainly based on Durga Puja. A Durga Homa (fire sacrifice) is performed to seek the Goddess’s blessings to ward off evil and bring prosperity and health to the worshipper. The puja usually starts with the abhishekam or bathing of the Mother Goddess. Other offerings include Ganapati Homa, Chandrayanam, Navagraha Homa, archana and namaskara. Before the puja, the sathrams (groups of devotees) chant mantras and sing devotional songs. At the end of the puja, the devotees pay their respects and receive blessed food from the priest. The temple is believed to be more than 500 years old and has been a place of pilgrimage for many generations. However, the main deity of the temple is said to be buried within the temple premises.
