History:
Oachira Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in the town of Oachira in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It is one of the most famous temples in Kerala and one of the most visited by devotees throughout the year. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Para Brahman, and it is believed to be situated on a plot of land that is owned by both the temple trustees and the government. The temple has its roots in the Skanda Purana, a Hindu mythological text, where it is stated that Lord Shiva and Vishnu entered into a competition to test the strength of their combined powers. This competition was won by Shiva, who created an image of himself as Para Brahman, and it is believed that this image is enshrined at the Oachira Temple. It is commonly believed that the Oachira Temple was built around 500 BCE, although recent archaeological discoveries hint that it may be even older. The temple has long been a source of wonder for both visitors and locals, and its architecture is quite unique. Instead of a fixed idol, the temple only has a large oracle that the devotee circumambulates while chanting mantras. The temple also has five ponds and twelve sacred pools known as the Twilight rivers, which are filled with holy water and believed to cure all ailments. It is one of the best temple in Kerala which you must visit.
