Worship Method:
The worship ritual at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple is a combination of five Prasads, known as Panchopchar. The Prasads includes: 1. Mangala Aarti: The Mangala Aarti is performed in the morning hours before the sun rises. The devotees carry an earthen lamp and offer prayers at the temple. 2. Shiv Puja: This technique of worship is performed in front of the Shivlinga of the temple. Flowers, fruits, milk and water are offered to the deity as offerings. 3. Bilva Abhishek: In this process of worship, a Bilva leaves is taken and four offerings of water are offered to the deity. 4. Akhand Jaap: Continuous chanting or jaap of the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ is done in this process. 5. Visarjan: This takes place during the evening time and is marked by the chanting of the mantra ‘Aum Namah Shivaya’ and the offering of flowers.
