The church was founded in 1999 and is named after two martyred South African priests, Stephen Lawrence and the Maxaquene. The church is part of the Diocese of Mozambique, which has jurisdiction over Mozambique, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The church emphasizes on preaching the gospel and loving service. It provides personal and social transformation, spiritual guidance, and education to its members, as well as an opportunity to serve in leadership roles. The church is committed to social justice and works to promote peace, justice, and reconciliation in the Mozambican society. It supports youth and women empowerment, as well as child development and health. The church's main service is the weekly Eucharist.
