Santa Maria in Via Lata is a Roman Catholic church located in the rione of Ponte in Rome, Italy. The church is situated between the Palazzo Farnese and the Torre dei Conti, near the Ponte Sisto. Construction of the church was begun in 1603 and it was completed in 1609. The church was designed by the architect Carlo Maderno (1556-1629) and is one of the most notable examples of early Baroque architecture in Rome. The church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and is also known as 'The Little Mary'. The interior of the church features stucco decoration, a fresco by Giovanni Lanfranco, a large altarpiece by Domenichino, and twelve canvases by the Venetian artist Antonio Molinari. The church also contains a large reliquary said to contain a relic of Mary's veil. Services held at Santa Maria in Via Lata include daily Mass as well as mass on major feasts of the liturgical calendar. The church also holds other religious events such as Benediction and Confession. The church is open to visitors during the day.
