Saint Peter's Church was built in the 11th century, with some parts possibly dating back to the Saxon era. It is said that the Norman Conqueror, William the Conqueror, offered the first mass here in 1086. The church was however destroyed in a fire in 1241 and was rebuilt in the following century. In addition to this, the church underwent restorations in the 15th and 17th centuries, and parts of the original structure are still present today. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

Saint Peter's Church is the oldest and largest parish church in Wiltshire, measuring 450 feet in length - it is also known as one of the longest parish churches in England. The church was built in the Gothic style and features pointed arches, ribbed vaults and lancet windows. The south porch is home to a 14th century statue of Jesus turning water into wine. Other features include a 15th century west window which is dedicated to John Capron, a local knight, and 15th century stained glass windows.
