Parroquia de la Medalla Milagro is a Dominican Catholic Church in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Founded in 1957, it is the oldest parish in the city, and named for a miracle medal that appeared in its rectory in 1960. It is part of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo and is one of the most popular and widely attended parishes in the city. The church's main bishop is Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez. History Parroquia de la Medalla Milagro was founded in 1957 by a Dominican Bishop, Monsignor Antonio Guzman. The church was dedicated to Our Lady of the Miracle Medal, and it was designed as a large basilica with a large central nave, transept, and three altars. Its design was heavily influenced by Italian religious architecture, particularly the style of the Pro-Cathedral of Santo Domingo. In 1960, a miracle occurred at the church. A gold medal with a picture of the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal was discovered on the temple’s rectory floor. Since then, people from all over the city and the Dominican Republic congregate in the church to worship and pray, and many believe the medal is a blessing from heaven.
