The temple was constructed in April of 1994 to serve as the focal point for the Church's ministries of prophecy, priesthood, and evangelism. It was designed by architect Gyo Obata and completed in April 1994. Community of Christ President W. Grant McMurray dedicated the building with prayer and reflection on April 30th of that year. The temple houses the World Church of Jesus Christ offices and is adjacent to the Church's historic headquarters complex, including the Independence Temple, Auditorium, and Tower.
