Church of Saint Augustine is a Roman Catholic parish church located in Manila, Philippines. It was first established in 1590, making it one of the oldest churches in Manila. The church was built by the Augustinian Order, who used it for their religious observances, leading to its namesake. It served as a spiritual center for Filipino Catholics during the Spanish colonial period, and remains an important part of the Catholic faith in the country. History The church was first constructed in 1590 by the Augustinian Order, who had just arrived in Manila from Spain. It was built and dedicated to St. Augustine of Hippo, and was served by the same Augustinian community that had taken him as their patron saint. The church was destroyed by a fire during the Manila Revolt in 1603, and was unfortunately left unimproved and in shambles until the following year when it was reconstructed. The three-storey bell tower and the large cupola surrounding it were added in 1749 and 1750, prominently marking the church in the skyline.
