Chapel of Saint Martha In Rome: History,Facts, & Services
History:
The chapel was commissioned by Pope Julius II in 1506 and completed in 1510. It was designed by Donato Bramante, the master architect who designed the iconic basilica of St. Peter's. When it was completed it was dedicated to Martha of Bethany, a figure from the Christian Bible whose life story encourages perseverance. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.

The Chapel of Saint Martha is the oldest of two dozen or so chapels located in the Apostolic Palace. It measures 5.2 meters (17 feet) by 5.3 meters (16 feet 5 inches). It is decorated with frescoes by the Baroque artist Giovanni Perin del Vaga and other Baroque masters. It also contains a wooden sculpture of Martha of Bethany by the 16th-century artist Giovanni da San Giovanni.

The Chapel of Saint Martha is open to the public and is used for religious services. The chapel has been used as a setting for numerous papal ceremonies and functions, including weddings, baptisms, and Mass celebrations. The chapel has also hosted important summits and meetings, such as the opening of the Second Vatican Council in 1962.This beautiful church in Rome has made a lot of significance in the past.
