The Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Cathedral was constructed beginning in 1613 and was finished in 1620. The original structure was built in the Baroque style and featured one tower at the entrance and one at the back. In 1771, it was declared the seat of the Diocese of Zacatecas and was referred to as the Catedral Basílica. It underwent a restoration in 1952 to enhance its magnificence. It is currently one of the most iconic attractions that Zacatecas has to offer. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mexico.
