Stella Maris Church is an historic Catholic Church located in the Spanish Missions National Historical Park in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 1755, this is the oldest Catholic Church in the region. The church was originally built in the colonial-style with bell towers, chapels and beautiful stained glass windows. It was named Stella Maris, meaning “Star of the Sea” in Latin, a title typically attributed to the Blessed Mother Mary. History:

The earliest records of Stella Maris Church date back to 1755 when it was established by Father Juan Antonio de San Buenaventura y Olivares, a Spanish priest. During this time, the Native Americans living in the region were being converted to Catholicism by the local missionaries. In 1762, the church was relocated to its present-day location and Father Miguel Alonso Martinez became the new pastor. In 1788, the church was renovated and new features were added, such as the bell towers and additional chapels. The renovation was part of a major renovation of the church.
