St John's Church is an Anglican church located in London, England. The church was originally built in the late 12th century and underwent massive renovations in the 16th century. The parish of St John's was founded in 1117 by the Bishop of London and expanded in 1229 when it was chosen as the site for the shrine of St John the Baptist. Today, St John's serves as a vibrant, diverse worshipping community and it is renowned for its wonderful architecture and unique atmosphere.

The original vision for St John’s was to create a chapel close to London’s main market. In 1130, Bishop Gilbert de Glanvill, first bishop of London, authorized the building of this chapel. The first building was eventually made larger and more suitable for public worship during the thirteenth century, when the new chapel erected was dedicated to St John the Baptist. The Black Death in the mid-fourteenth century devastated the entire area and, by the fifteenth century, neglect and simple decay was affecting the chapel, however it was soon restored and developed into a parish church. The building underwent a drastic transformation in the 16th century, when it was re-modeled in the style of the Gothic revival.
