The worship method of Shri Sivalingam Kovil is four-fold: puja (rituals) penances, bhajans (devotional songs) and aarudam (sacred ceremonies). The puja rituals start with the recital of mantras. It is believed that the words of these mantras are meditations, which have the power to evoke knowledge and strength. Fans, incense and flowers are placed in front of the Lord's image and devotees chant prayers to receive blessing. After these rituals, the devotees perform an aarudam, where they offer a garland to Lord Shiva and express their gratitude for His benevolence. Devotees also practice penance such as bathing in holy waters and doing japas (mantra recitation). The devotees sing and dance to devotional songs praising the Lord's name. These bhajans are accompanied by music performed using the traditional South Indian musical instruments such as nadaswaram.
