Eglise Saint Pierre-ès-Liens In Mauritius: History,Facts, & Services

Eglise Saint Pierre-ès-Liens is an old place of Catholic worship in the city of Blois, in the Department of Loir-et-Cher, France. It stands on a hill overlooking the city of Blois and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. The church was built in the twelfth century and has undergone a number of renovations over the centuries, most recently in the 19th and 20th centuries. The architecture of the main building is Romanesque, but other more decorative styles are intermingled throughout, such as the baroque-style facade. History of Eglise Saint Pierre-ès-Liens dates back to the end of the eleventh century when it was founded by Bishop Robert of Blois, as a reminder to local peasants of church teachings. It was initially built from timber and stone, but a major renovation project in the mid twelfth century resulted in a much enlarged stone structure, giving it more of a Romanesque feel. After this period, the church only underwent minor changes and additions, until the 19th century when a large Baroque-style entrance was added. The church still maintains much of its original design and today serves as a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Facts about Eglise Saint Pierre-ès-Liens include its impressive height, as the main building stands at an impressive 30 metres in height. The interior of the church is similarly impressive, as there are still many of the original pieces of art in place. The church is also home to a number of fine works of art, including a triptych painting by the artist Jean-Baptiste Oudry, a stained-glass window by Georges Rémi, and a sculpture by Émile Philippon. Services held in the church include Masses on a regular basis, as well as special services around Easter and Christmas. Additionally, the church is also used for special rituals, such as baptisms and wedding ceremonies.
