The original plan of Christ Church College was to include a new college and a place of worship. The proposed chapel, as it was known, followed the style of nearby Magdalen College and was modeled after a traditional college chapel. Construction began in 1546 and the chapel was opened for worship the following year, with the college being inaugurated in 1551.
