The Mahishasur Mardini Temple in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh practices a unique worship method known as ‘Kul Devi Puja’. This method of worship involves the offering of a unique combination of offerings to the Goddess. Every member of the family has to participate in this puja. During the puja, a large earthen lamp made of cowdung is lit and is kept in the middle of a round mandapas or platforms. Then, a paan leaf is placed over the lamp, along with flowers, incense, fruits, and a variety of sweets. Sandalwood paste is then smeared on the paan leaf.
