Worship Method:

The worship of Chamunda Devi in the Kangra Devi Temple of Kangra is conducted according to the agama (औदास्य) and shastra (scriptural) traditions. The devotee first offers obeisance to Lord Shiva and then proceeds towards Chamunda Devi. Aarti is performed to Chamunda Devi and prasad is distributed. Devotees chant mantras such as “Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundaye Vichche”. Prayers are offered with offerings of fruits, flowers, incense, lamps and sweets. At the end of the prayers, a pratishtha (consecration) of the Devi is performed by reciting shlokas from the Agama texts. Apart from the regular Poojas, special Pujas are held on Navratri, Ramnavami, Ramanavami, Diwali, Dusshera, Durga Puja and Navratri. During the Navratri festivities, the Nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped in the form of Chamunda Devi. Offerings like havan, Paan, Falahar and Diwali are made. The other rituals include Abhishekam, Jhanki, Bhandara, Paalki, Chauri, Bhajan and Kirtan. During the Chauri Festival, the devotees circumambulate the temple carrying the Devi’s palanquin and chanting “Chamunda Devi ki Jay”.
