According to legend, the right eye of Sati fell at this location when Shiva danced with her corpse, and thus it is also known as Netra Peeth. The deity of the temple is Bhagwati Naina Devi. It is believed that Sati once asked Shiva to make a temple in her honor at the same place where her right eye had fallen off.
