Jesosy Mamonjy Ambohimanarina is a small village located in the district of Fianarantsoa in northern Madagascar. It is believed to be the birthplace of the Queen of Madagascar, Ranavalona III, the last monarch of the country before the French colonization of 1895. This village was a historical and political stronghold throughout the country's turbulent history. During the Merina Empire (1792-1896), the area was home to powerful royalty and a great number of religious and traditional ceremonies were performed there. Even today, old traditions still remain and are celebrated by the people of the village. Some of these include traditional healing, art, music and crafts. Local festivals are also still celebrated there with much pomp and circumstance.
