FJKM Avaratr'Andohalo In Madagascar: History,Facts, & Services

FJKM Avaratr'Andohalo is a Madagascar-based Christian organization dedicated to serving the rural poor with a mission to develop sustainable communities. Originally known as Fiangonana Jesoa Kristy eto Madagasikara (FJKM), it was founded in 1981 and grew out of the efforts of émigrés from the Marovato archdiocese of northern Madagascar. Today, FJKM operates in four of Madagascar's six provinces, focusing on health, education, economic development and spiritual support for its members. Its staff of 350 volunteers work in more than 1000 churches and run a network of health services, literacy classes, as well as social and economic development projects. FJKM operates three hospitals, nine health centers, and six health posts, and in 2019 exceeded its goal of providing 294,000 medical consultations across Madagascar. In addition to its health services, FJKM also runs a number of educational programs including an adult education initiative, a literacy program and a vocational school. Through this training, members of the community are able to gain skills and knowledge that will enable them to participate in economic development and contribute to their local economy. FJKM also runs a number of spiritual programs in conjunction with its health and education initiatives, including leadership programs for local pastors and youth programming. Lastly, FJKM works to promote sustainable and responsible development in the communities it serves through its social and economic development projects. Through these initiatives, FJKM provides small grants and microfinance services to members of the community, enabling them to start and operate small businesses. In addition, FJKM works to provide training in sustainable agricultural practices, enabling families to maximize their crop yields and improve food security. FJKM is committed to fostering a sense of community ownership and responsibility, creating self-reliance and self-efficacy in individuals and families in poverty areas.
