ECAR Milenaky, Eglise de Saint Jean Baptiste in Madagascar, is one of the most ancient and prestigious churches in the country, having been in existence since the 16th century. The church is located in Milenaky, a small village on the outskirts of Antananarivo, the capital city. The church serves the predominantly Catholic population of Madagascar. The church was built in the style of a Romanesque basilica and its most remarkable feature is an image of a figure of St John the Baptist, which is located above the entrance to the church. It is said that the image was brought to Madagascar by Portuguese mariners who landed there in the 1500s. The church also has three octagonal towers, bell towers, and several old stained-glass windows. The church is known for its resident priest, Father Ray Garcia, who is instrumental in cultivating the spiritual life in the community. He is known for his tendency to engage with the people in conversations about the Bible and to share the word of God with them. The church regularly holds services and masses and the villagers enjoy coming together to celebrate their faith. The church also serves a number of other social and religious services. There is a free medical clinic managed by the church in cooperation with a local hospital, and free classes in literacy for local children. The church also looks to provide for the spiritual and physical needs of the population by providing food and clothing to those in need. In addition, they have also established a church library, which provides books and movies for locals.
