The Theotokos of Kazan Orthodox Church of Riga In Latvia is a Russian Orthodox Church in the Latvian capital of Riga. It was built in the 19th century and is dedicated to the Mother of God of Kazan. It is the largest Orthodox church in the country. The church has a long and colorful history that dates back to the mid-1800s when a wealthy merchant from St. Petersburg named Ivan Andreevich Palashkovskiy decided to build it in honor of the Virgin Mary. In 1821, the church was consecrated and opened to the public. Since then, it has served as a place of worship for local Orthodox believers and has attracted visitors from around the world. The church has a number of services and features. These include Sunday Liturgy, weddings and baptisms, youth activities, lectures, and meetings. The church is also home to an iconostasis which features gold and silver icons of the Virgin Mary.
