The Cathedral of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, known as Maria-Saal, is the largest church in Latvia, located in the city of Jelgava. It was built from 1730 to 1815 in the style of Latvian Baroque during the reign of Luigi XIV, and it is the largest Baroque church remodeled in the area. The cathedral was destroyed during the Second World War and restored in the 1970s. It is the seat of the Archdiocese of Riga and features stained glass windows, a monastery, a library, and several altars. It is visited by tourists, residents, and churchgoers alike, and serves as a symbol of Latvian history.
