St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Liepāja is an iconic Roman Catholic cathedral in the centre of Liepāja, Latvia. St. Joseph’s Cathedral was built in 1769-1777 and is one of the most important monuments dedicated to religious architecture in Latvia. The building is an example of the Baroque style and contains numerous works of art related to religious and cultural history. History:

The construction of the cathedral began in 1769 and was supervised by a military architect, Karl Brummer, who built the church according to the general plans provided by a Viennese architect, Erik Mirscheer. The chosen site was the outskirts of Liepaja that was then just a village. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Latvia.
