Holy Trinity Cathedral in Riga, Latvia is the main Christian church in this Baltic country. Known locally as the Dome Cathedral, it is the largest of the Church of Latvia. History:

Holy Trinity Cathedral in Riga was originally constructed in 1211 and was destroyed several times throughout its history. During a 13th century rebellion, Mongols destroyed the Cathedral. It was restored in the 14th century, and in 1621 it was used as refuge from the Swedish armies. It was restored twice more, once in 1780 and again in 1883. On June 17, 1941 the Cathedral was badly damaged by a bomb and burned for two days. It was afterwards restored and opened again to worshipers. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Latvia.

Holy Trinity Cathedral in Riga is a great example of Gothic and Romanesque architecture, being 103m long, 58m high and 21m wide. The façade is made from local limestone, as well as reddish sandstone. The interior of the Cathedral also features resplendent German stained-glass windows made in the 15th century and powerful frescoes with themes like the Birth of Christ, as well as the celebration of great liturgical events. The Cathedral also has a huge organ with 18,000 pipes and 200 stops built in 1880.
