Church of the Holy Trinity in Latvia is an Orthodox Church, established in 1878 and located in Riga, Latvia. It is one of the most important churches of the Orthodox faith in Latvia, providing a place of worship for members of the Orthodox faith. History The church was established in 1878, when a parish gathered to build and create a church. As part of the project, the parishioners also erected a school building and an orphanage. The church building was designed by the architect M.V. Kalniņš and a wooden bell tower and sculptures of saints were added in 1888. During the 1940s, both the parish and the church were dissolved by the Soviet Union resulting in the church being returned to the Latvian Orthodox Church in 1992. Facts The main altar of the church features a 6th-century icon of the Archangel Michael, which was discovered near Valdai, on the Russian north-western railway line. The church is often referred to as ‘John the Theologian’, being named after John the Evangelist, one of the four Apostles of Jesus. Services Church of the Holy Trinity offers religious worship services, funeral services, Bible study, prayer groups, and various other services. There is also a parish school with both primary and secondary departments. The school provides religious education and instruction in language, mathematics, and other academic subjects.
