Worshipers typically arrive early in the morning before the early morning chanting session to meditate in the temple courtyard, then offer incense and food to the spirit figures housed in shrines at the temple. They then proceed to one of the several altars to pay their respects and make further devotional offerings of flowers, fruits, candles and incense. Buddhist teachings concerning the nature of suffering, impermanence, and liberation are read aloud or chanted at various points during the ceremony, with the worshipper taking an active role in the ceremony by listening and actively reflecting upon the teachings.
