St Paul's Anglican Church in Kuwait is one of Kuwait’s oldest churches, having been established in 1957. It is the only Anglican Church in Kuwait and is located in the historic, diplomatic area of Kuwait City. The church was founded in order to provide a place of worship for British and North American ex-pats living in Kuwait. St Paul’s is part of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf and falls under the spiritual care and jurisdiction of the Bishop of Cyprus and the Gulf, The Right Reverend Dr Michael Lewis. History St Paul’s Anglican Church was the result of a long period of negotiations between the governments of the United Kingdom and Kuwait. In 1957, HRH Shaikh Ahmad Al Sabah, then Prime Minister, gifted the premises of the Church to the British Embassy for the purpose of a Christian place of worship in Kuwait. The Church building was originally a palace of Al-Muhammad Al-Salem from the Al-Muhammad family, and was originally constructed in the late 19th Century. Facts St Paul’s now serves over 170 nationalities, from a broad spectrum of Christian denominations. It has also developed strong inter-faith links, both locally and internationally. The philosophy of the Church is to promote mutual understanding and tolerance towards people of all faiths. Services St Paul’s offers Sunday and mid-week services as well as special Feast Day services. It also has regular adult and child religious education courses, youth activities, music concerts, and other outreach and charitable activities.
