Badrinath Temple is one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimage sites in India. The temple enshrines a 1 m (3.3 ft) high black granite statue of Lord Vishnu in his incarnation of Badrinarayan and offers darshan (divine vision) to thousands of devotees every year. The ritual worship or Pooja at Badrinath Temple is a very important part of the temple traditions and culture. It is said that no pooja can be performed without the presence and blessings of Lord Vishnu. This pooja is performed three times daily and involves offering kashaya (sacred water) before the deity, chanting of vedic mantras and shlokas (hymns) and offering incense, camphor, flowers and other sacred offerings.
