The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi was established on July 29, 1953 by Pope Pius XII, with the missionary territories of North and South Kavirondo, Central Nyanza and the Rift Valley provinces becoming part of the diocese. It is currently part of the Kenya Episcopal Conference (KEC), which is led by John Cardinal Njue. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Kenya.
