The movement was birthed in the 1990s out of the Nairobi chapel. The church has grown both numerically and geographically and has extended its reach in ministry to all parts of the country. Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, Umoja In Kenya was founded by Bishop David Shem in 1990, when he established Nairobi Chapel. The chapel was part of an evangelistic crusade in East Africa and set the tone for what would become one of the largest evangelical churches in the country. The church grew rapidly, and by 2002, it had over 200 branches spread throughout the country and officially established Full Gospel Churches of Kenya. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Kenya.
