The Full Gospel Church of Kenya was founded in 1934 by Reverend. C.C. Onyango, hitherto a pastor in the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. Kisumu was the site of the first full-time Full Gospel Church, and it continued to expand throughout the ensuing decades, to different cities and villages in its county (Kisumu) and beyond. The denomination played a significant role in the process of Kenya's independence, as Rev. Onyango whole-heartedly supported Kenyan nationalism. In the early days of its development, FGKK emerged primarily out of an African cultural mindset, blending indigenous concepts of worship, music, and ministry with gospel principles.
