It is a member church of the Lutheran World Federation, the World Council of Churches, Christian Churches Together in the USA, and the All Africa Conference of Churches. The Lutheran Church of Kenya was founded in 1918, when the first Lutheran mission to Kenya was established. The mission was a joint venture between the Finnish Missionary Society, Swedish Missionary Society and the Norwegian Missionary Society. This mission eventually developed into the district church known today as the LCK. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Kenya.
